In today’s modern world we are conditioned to want and to expect results immediately, if we want to find out what the weather will be on Saturday we will take our smart phone and check and the information will be there in a matter of seconds.
If we have a headache then we will want that to go away as soon as possible as it effects our day, so we grab a painkiller from our bag and swallow and wait for the pain to go away. If we have increased stomach acid because we just ate a really fatty meal then we will grab an anti-acid tablet, swallow and wait for our acid levels to go down. Blood pressure tablets are the same principle, we have high blood pressure for example and then we take tablets to reduce this. This is all perfectly normal and right..Yes? NO.
The problem here is that we have lost the respect for our innate ability of our body to deal with our health, we have started to believe that our health comes from outside in not inside out. By this I mean that our body is continually trying to maintain homeostasis, for example if we eat something very sugary our body senses this in our blood and will raise insulin levels in order to break down the sugars. Our body has detected the raise in blood sugar and has responded accordingly to bring back the balance that is needed In our body.
When we have high blood pressure it is generally because the body is HAVING to increase the work load of the heart in order to pump the same amount of blood around the body, the body is responding to the situation within it (health is maintained from inside out).
An example of what could cause the increased blood pressure could be decreased space in the artery due to the thickening of the artery walls from fatty deposits from poor diet. So by taking the pills to mechanically decrease your blood pressure it means we are not listening to our body that is trying so hard to pump the blood around these arteries that have less space because we have made poor lifestyle choices of not eating the right foods and not exercising enough.
This is very dangerous to continually not listen to our innate ability of our body to heal and respond accordingly to situations caused by us to our body, by constantly trying to suppress or excite the body using drugs rather than understanding why the body is acting in that way and then trying to correct the cause if that is exercising more, eating more healthy or seeing a Chiropractor for your headaches you are heading in one direction that is Dis-ese and poor health.
So before you reach for your next muscle relaxant, pain killer or statin for your blood pressure ask yourself, could I take more responsibility for my own health and trust my body?
