Shoulder pain is a common problem that many of our patients come in with when I’m working in Helsinki and Oulu.
The shoulder joint is an extremely complicated joint made up of many movable parts such as the Gleno-humeral joint, Acromio-clavicular joint, Sterno-clavicular joint and the scapular. The highly mobile joints of course are very useful as it gives our fantastic range for motion that we can achieve with the shoulder. However if any of these structures are not moving properly or are incorrectly aligned then problems in the shoulder can arise.
As a Chiropractor I specialize in improving the function of the spine and the surrounding joints of the body in order to decrease stress, promote healing and improve the ability of the body to maximize its full potential in anything it can do.
So when someone has shoulder pain it is important to check the movement of all the joints that make up the shoulder and if I find any issues such as restricted movement or poor positioning of the shoulder then Chiropractic adjustments would then be needed in order to improve these problems.
Our sedentary lifestyle which is pretty much made up of computer work for at least 8 hours a day causes our spine and shoulders to be flexed too far forward, when the shoulder joints are forward they become rounded and it’s this position that mis-aligns the shoulder joint leading to locked and stressed areas as mentioned above.
The longer this is left like this the worse the problem becomes and this is when the structures will become irritated, inflamed and lead to a lot of the pain and problems people get in there shoulder and surrounding muscles and tendons.
So if you are getting shoulder pain and problems make sure you get your spine and surrounding joints checked for issues, A Chiropractor is the perfect person to do this for you. You will need to get these problematic areas functioning better and then address any muscle weakness and tightness that has developed due to this.
By working on the cause of the problem and not just your symptoms like taking painkillers or having a steroid injection you will have a better chance of full recovery.
